Mold Still Grows During Winter. Eliminate This Nasty Culprit

While most homeowners don’t worry much about mold during the cold winter months, this fungus doesn’t take time off for snow and ice. With the right conditions, it can thrive during any time of year, including wintertime. Here’s what you can do to remove mold in your Greater Cleveland area home and keep it from coming back:

Simple Steps for Mold EliminationMold Still Grows During Winter. Eliminate This Nasty Culprit

If you’ve already got a problem with the creeping greenish-blackish stuff, take matters into your own hands by cleaning up the area with one of the following natural cleansers:

  • White vinegar: Every home should have this natural cleanser on hand. White vinegar kills most types of mold and is safe for indoor use. Just put on some gloves, spray it on and wipe it off.
  • Tea tree oil: Many essential oils are able to kill off pathogens, but tea tree oil is able to function as both a microbial and antifungal, making it a great choice for natural cleansing.
  • Citrus seed extract: If you prefer a fresh scent to accompany your eradication methods, mix 10 drops of citrus seed extract to one cup of water and spray it directly onto the affected area.

Preventing a Fungal Recurrence

Your work isn’t over once you’ve rid your home of mold. If you want to keep your house healthy and happy, you’ve got to prevent it from coming back. Here’s how to protect your home and family:

  • Dry up water immediately: Mold needs water in order to grow; make your house as unwelcoming as possible by keeping it as watertight as possible.
  • Consider investing in a dehumidifier: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) suggests keeping your home humidity between 30 and 60 percent for best results.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help: If you’re unable to remove or prevent mold in your home, it may be time to call in the experts.
