Actions That Make Home Comfort And Savings Irrefutable

This summer there are specific actions you can take to maximize the  comfort in your Northeast Ohio home. These actions will also ensure you save money on your energy costs.

Save energy, save money and increase your home’s comfort:

  1. Make sure your air conditioning system is operating properly. Switch the thermostat to “cool” and turn down the temperature. Check the breakers if the system does not turn on. If it does turns on, check that it is producing adequate cool air.
  • Call your local HVAC contractor if your system is not working correctly.
  • Change your thermostat; use 78 degrees for when people are home, 85 degrees otherwise.
  • Remove the cover from your air conditioner.
  • Clear away debris that might block the air flow to the outside portion of your air conditioner.
  • Use a garden hose to clean the coils.
  • Set up a monthly reminder to replace or clean the filters.
  • If you plan to do some landscaping, think about planting trees and shrubs where they will shade your house in the summer.
  • To increase your home comfort, install room fans or ceiling fans.
  • Feel for air blowing through leaks around windows and doors. Seal leaks with weather stripping and/or caulk.
  • Replace storm windows with screens.
  • When washing dishes, use your dishwasher — it uses less water than washing by hand. Save electricity by letting your dishes air-dry.
  • Instead of using your stove, use your microwave to save energy.
  • If your freezer and refrigerator are full, the inside will stay cool longer when the door is opened. The motors won’t run as long to re-cool everything.
  • Incandescent light bulbs should be replaced with Energy Star qualified fluorescent bulbs.
  • When washing clothes, use cold water for the wash and rinse. Warm water is okay, but avoid hot.
  • If you have the space, try line drying your clothes. Always have a full load when you use your dryer.
  • Electronics and other appliances use electricity even when they are turned off. Unplug whenever possible.
  • If you are purchasing new appliances, choose high-efficiency models.
  • With these actions, your home comfort and savings will be assured. For more ideas and assistance, contact the experts at Geisel Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing.  Your savings and home comfort are their priority.
